LWTZE FORUM ADDRESSES ISSUES ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

LWTZE FORUM ADDRESSES ISSUES ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
It was a scholarly gathering at Terra Kulture Victoria Island, on Friday 25th July as LWTZE (Lady With The Zoom Effect) Concept organised a forum titled “Domestic Violence And Climate Change: A Concealed Analogy.”
The forum was borne out of the need to foster peaceful co-existence among Nigerians and ensure sustainable development.
Nationally and internationally, Climate Change and Domestic Violence had evoked strong reactions from different scholars in the field. Speaking at the forum, Joe Odumakin said Climate change as a global issue arouses wide concern in the international community and it is one of the greatest challenges that humanity faces in the 21st century. As an issue not just of environment sustainability but also of development, climate change needs to be responded to within the context of development.
Also, with intense research, it has been observed that Climate Changes breeds violence in all forms including domestic violence which has become a norm in Nigeria. According to the UN reports, domestic violence in the past 3 years has risen from 1 percent in 2011 to 40 percent in 2014. Traditionally, Domestic Violence is committed against female folks in forms of Rape, Acid Attacks, Molestation, Wife Beating and Corporate Punishment. In order to address this unhealthy situation, Yeancah Adamu, Director, Lady with the Zoom Effect, said the forum aims at ensuring a balance between economic and environmental priorities.
The speakers for the day were Joe Odumakin: ace human rights activist, Kolawole Oyeyemi: GM Marketing, MTN, Engr Shabi Adebola: GM Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Engr Ogunbambi: Representative of Ministry of Environment (PS), Dr Akin Akinteye: Social Secretary Unilag Alumni and Psychologist, Dr Babatunde Obada: CEO Biofuel Oil. The event was quite a memorable one for all attendees as Hemingway's Safaris gave out vouchers for participants to win a free accommodation in a resort/hotel on a trip to their dream destinations.
